Hola, mi amigos! How are you all? How’s lockdown for you? I hope you are safe and sound at home. So, coming to the point, just when this lockdown seemed to be a drag, I found something and now I’m going to share that fascinating thing with you today. Recently, my mom and I have been doing an intriguing activity together. We both joined in a workshop to learn the art of making natural colors. For years, we all have been using chemical colors for food and fun purposes. But regular intake of it might cause health troubles. So, we wanted to explore this art and signed up for the activity together. It’s a week-long workshop and for day 1, we learned to make a natural color palette from flowers. Fresh flowers. Apparently we can also extract colors from dried flowers but we haven’t learned that yet. So for now, let’s make a natural color palette from fresh flowers.
For that, we spent an entire evening and made the color palette. This is how we made it.
Step 1:
Collecting several beautiful and colorful flowers. If you have a garden or plants near your house, you can pick some colorful flowers. Try to collect the ones fallen from the plant rather than plucking it out. And yes, we found many beautiful flowers in our nature quest.
Step 2:
With all the vibrant flowers we gathered we reached back home and started making the color palette. How? You only need two things to make your own natural color palette; A4 paper sheets and the flowers you collected. Now sit down and take flower by flower and press and swipe it on the paper. It will leave a brilliant color on the white sheet.
Our observation: Flowers with thick petals are a bit hard and don’t give pigmented colors. So, better to go for flowers with thin petals if you are aiming to get vibrant shades.
Step 3:
There’s no number 3 actually. Just try one by one and enjoy yourself. And then we even drew a small picture and colored it with the flowers we have. It is like a kid’s drawing but we enjoyed so much. It is such a wonderful experience.
Isn’t it a great thing to experience once in life?! Not specifically an expert at it but you can at least know how this feels. If you are bored from everyday humdrum and toxic work life, I highly suggest you to try this out. It helps you relax, be happy, and excited.
Also, I enjoyed doing this together with my mom. This way, we get to spend some fun times with each other and also to learn something new. Win-win.
And what we felt is that while searching for flowers and working on it we experienced a deeper connection with nature. This activity reminded us how beautiful, exuberant, and resourceful our nature is. Let’s cherish and foster it.
If it interests you, try it out. I swear, it’s really exciting. And if possible, do tag me in your those pictures on Instagram. Would love to look at your work.
Until next time,
Lots of LOVE,
Nikki.
