On Navratri day 7, Ma Durga is worshipped in the form of Ma Kali, also called as Ma Kaalratri. This avatar is the most terrifying of all. She has a dark complexion and looks aggressive. Ma Kali is a form created to kill demons and evil. Many think that this form of Ma Durga is always violent but she is also forgiving and protective at the same time. That’s why she is also called Shubhankari, meaning one who is auspicious.
One of the stories about Ma Kali that I remember is how Shiva calmed her down when she became furious and there was no way of stopping her. Once there was a fight between gods and demons. Demons were trying to take control of the world. The leader of the evil was a demon named Raktabeeja who had a boon from Lord Brahma that every drop of his blood that falls on the ground will turn into another form of him. It rendered all the gods speechless and asked Ma Durga for help. She created Ma Kali to kill the demons. But it was impossible to kill Raktabeej without spilling his blood on the ground. So, she became violent and aggressive and started drinking his blood while killing every form of Raktabeeja created. Her rage was so powerful that it shook the whole world.
In the end, it was impossible to calm her down even after the victory over demons. Then all the gods prayed Lord Shiva as he’s the one who can soothe Ma Kali’s anger. Calling out or talking to her was of no use as she was in a trance. Lord Shiva then came to her and laid down in her path. As soon as she stepped on Shiva she regained her consciousness realizing it was her husband under her feet and immediately turned back into her kind self.
Navratri Day 7 OOTD
Coming to my saree for the day, it was a red Banarasi georgette saree I wore. Georgettes are so good, I love that fabric. It looks stylish and comfortable to carry. We can pull it off for literally any occasion. This is my second time wearing a red saree this Navratri, one is the traditional Kanjivaram saree and now this.
I purchased these accessories from Myntra a long time ago. These went super well with the vibe of this saree.
And I created smokey eyes for this saree. Not too bold but a moderate one. If you want to go for a bolder look, you can dab on some black eyeshadow and get a deeper smokey eye. I only used Kajal.
That’s all for Navratri day 7. I hope you liked today’s story as well as my outfit for the day. Let me know in the comments below, as you know I’d be so excited to hear from you.
I’ll see you again tomorrow.
Lots of LOVE,
Nikki.
