Mother, father, teacher, and God — This is what we say where I live. This is the order of importance in one’s life. Teacher/mentor comes even before God and right after your parents. Because they are capable of positively impacting our lives. They make us independent. But when we talk about teachers we only remember the ones that taught us in school and university. We never consider ones that guide us later. But you know what, they are more important than your conventional teachers. Because… bookish stuff, you can learn somehow but life skills, only a good mentor can teach. Do you understand where I’m going with this?
I started blogging in 2017 and shortly after some time I started I met someone on Facebook from the blogging community who helped me through everything related to a blog. Later I met someone else who encouraged me to write my story and publish it — I listened and I published my first book in 2018.
If it wasn’t for them probably it would have taken much longer for me to reach this point. So a mentor will make things a tad bit easier. You still have to do your hard work but a mentor will have your back. Just imagine how assuring that could be.
Now I’m about to share FIVE things I noticed in my life change because of a mentor.
1. Wisdom earned over the years
Your mentor has obviously been in the industry for years now so over time he must have earned a lot of wisdom. And as their mentee, you will inherit all of that priceless knowledge and trade hacks. It saves you a lot of time and struggle.
Can we learn everything by ourselves and by our own experience? No-go. Sometimes you gotta take someone’s word for it. Then adding up your knowledge and your mentor’s wisdom, you will be able to achieve things much faster and efficiently.
2. Your present is your mentor’s past
Over the course of his life, your mentor must have made several mistakes. Where you are currently was his past. He’s been through the same path so he can imagine what could you possibly do wrong at that stage. And he will save you from repeating the same mistake he once made.
He’ll share what his mistake was and how he overcame it. And that is something only your mentor can teach you, not even Google can help you with that.
3. Constant inspirer
When you aim to achieve greater things you’ll often feel dejected and demotivated — by things, people, or situations. Because you have a lot to deal with. And your mentor can get your spirits high again with his constant support. He’ll try and get you back on track.
4. Best advices
When you’re confronting a difficult situation, you get lost often. You can share it with your friends and family but they won’t be able to give you any definite piece of advice because they’re not aware of your industry. Whereas your mentor can do that.
He will offer the best piece of advice he can, based on his years of experience. And you will be able to get out of that crisis in no time. It will cut down your mental stress to a great extent.
5. Connections
No matter what your industry is, connections are essential. It can build your career in unexpected ways. Since your mentor is in the business for so long he might have already made connections with several important people. Now, as your mentor, he’ll pass along those connections to you.
That is something you shouldn’t be overlooking.
That’s all.
This is what I saw.
And seriously, can you pass over any of these?
Let me know in the comments what you learned from your mentor.
I’ll see you next time.
Cheers,
Nikki.
