We are in 2021 and many still don’t consider writing as a proper career. It is categorised to be a hobby, at the most a passion. But not a career. And why is it so? It’s because we have no clue how to properly monetise it. Like that, we offhandedly overlooked many prosperous career lines in writing.
But those who chose those lanes and included social media to escalate their career, succeeded quite well in this pandemic. I have FIVE such writing careers to opt even now. It’s never too late to give a little boost to your passion.
Let us dive into it.
5 Writing Careers
1. Blogging
Start your own blog, lest a free one for now perhaps. There are a multitude of topics you can choose from and create a blog exploring that topic. In no time, you will be working with big and small brands.
I started my writing career with this blog and I saw how this blog led to many awesome things I had in my cap today.
Once you are confident, you can invest little by little in your blog to make it a booming success one day.
A little heads up: Patience is a necessity here. And you definitely cannot afford procrastination if you want your blog to be a success as early as you can.
2. Copywriter
Another amazing career option. With digital marketing rising to the sky, there’s a huge requirement for copywriters. Remember, copywriting is different from regular writing.
So I’d suggest you don’t jump headfirst into it, but do your research and hone your skills and then make your move.
Once your clients are happy with your work, there will be no looking back.
3. Freelance content writer
You can start your freelance career through Fiverr or Upwork and have your work come to you.
The beginning could be a little tough but with persistence, you can have a handful of clients in not too long.
Tip: Even if you’re going for freelance writing, I’d recommend you at least have a free hosted blog. That will give your clients a brief preview of your working style.
4. Story writer
Again, many areas to explore — Fantasy, fiction, children’s stories, thriller, romance, etc,. Whatever your area of interest is, you can study it online, build your skillset and become a storyteller.
What better
5. Proofreader/Editor
Until there are writers, proofreaders and editors will be there. There’s no way you didn’t think of this as a good career option.
You can find your clients on platforms like Fiverr and Upwork.
That’s all.
And these are only FIVE to start with and there are many more. Maybe we can talk about them another time.
If you are a writer, I hope these will start some idea and you will continue pursuing your career in writing.
One thing for sure is these are not the easy way around but once you get the hang of it, you will be super glad to have made this decision.
What kind of a writer are you?
Let me know in the comments.
I’ll see you soon again.
Much love,
Nikki.
