How to Live in the Moment

Aren’t we making life too hard? I’m afraid, yes. I know life isn’t as simple as I say either. But I believe it’s possible we can find some middle ground. Happy lives, true loves, and magical moments have become fairytale stuff. Well, they shouldn’t.

This is something that has always been on my mind. Though I never found a definite answer. But recently I had a few experiences that are a bit magical. As people often say, I lived in the moment and believe me when I say this, I saw the world with a new pair of eyes.

Let me show the world I saw. (If you’re following on Insta you probably already had a peek of my world but here you go)

We went on an impromptu beach outing last Sunday. Unlike most beaches, this one is less crowded and less trashed. Actually, this is a two-part beach outing. We couldn’t go there the first time because the beach was closed. Although we travelled all the way there, we couldn’t see it. But on our way, I saw what a true beauty nature is.

Then another day, my brother took us to a different beach. It was a perfect day. I could use the word zen here. Some days get good for some reason, and some go south for no reason at all. If we try to find a pattern we will be lost all our lives, just enjoy the moment and move along.

Either good or bad, we’re gonna move past them, thus all the more reason to not just get stuck on one bad day. Eventually, we’re all gonna get our perfect days. Maybe one sooner than the other but we’re all gonna get there.

What is living in the moment?

It’s not some impossible noetic stunt only monks can do. We just gotta be present mentally. And instead of just being vague about it, shall I crack the code in detail?

Even I was clueless until it happened. But this is how it started.

Watch what’s happening around you. Don’t just look, observe. Like when you are reading for exams, you read to remember. Just so, take a deep look at things.

Look at this capture. Before I took a picture, I captured it with my eyes and saved it in my heart. Even though it’s been days I can remember how it looked without needing a photo. The clouds were much puffier off camera.

Then when you are observing things, keep breathing mindfully and relaxedly. Try this especially when you are sitting in front of a beautiful view.

Most importantly, be with people that you love and that love you back. The vibe you get from people is so powerful that it matters so much. Thus when you wanna go on a vacay for mental health, make sure you bring along people that care for you. Then you can let go and savour the moment.

At some point, while doing all this, you will feel your mind clearing away. That was my biggest sign. I felt my mind open and there was not a single thing at the back of my mind. My mind was sharp and clear.

I was only present in the moment, savouring what was happening.

When I was at the beach I felt the exact live-in-the-moment kinda way. Watching the rising and falling tides, I didn’t want to leave that place at all. All that’s missing was my journal and pen.

And this is what I saved in my heart — My mom and brother playing in the water, the waves that touched my feet, the sun shining in the sky, my dad’s wide smile when my brother pulled him into the water, the tiny shell we found, and more.
