Your Ideal Hair Care Routine Based on Your Hair Type

What is the Ideal Hair Care Routine?

I’m going to solve this mind-boggling question for you in the next five minutes.

And before anything, I think I should rephrase the question to “What is the Ideal Hair Care Routine for your hair type?”

Hair Care routines change based on your hair type. So there’s more than one ideal hair care routine.

So our first step in figuring out your perfect hair care routine is to figure out your hair type.

The four hair types are — Straight, Wavy, Curls, and tight curls. Basic types. However, each can be further branched based on the extent of it. Therefore, you should bear your hair type in mind even while choosing your hair care products.

Ideal Hair Care Routine

I had hair like Rapunzel in my teens and early twenties. Eventually, hair troubles started, and foolishly, I decided to cut my hair short—a decision most of us girls regret soon after the first snip.

We jump to that decision because we know the difficulty in maintaining a consistent hair care routine. But short or long, your hair requires a good care routine, especially after the twenties.

So let’s begin and see what you must consider for your hair type.

Straight Hair Care Routine

Though straight hair seems quite manageable, it takes just the amount of hard work as any other hair type would.

First and foremost to consider is the frequency of hair wash. Straight hair tends to grease up quickly and lose its volume. So a frequent hair wash is recommended. Probably twice a week.

And coming to the products, use volume-inducing hair care products. If you have naturally straight hair, you most possibly don’t need a conditioner. It would make your hair too soft.

Wavy Hair Care Routine

I believe this is the most carefree and easy to handle hair type. No hardcore routines are required, just the basic TLC.

But if new causes arise, such as hair fall or dry hair, then you need to put a little more care into your routine.

Usually, the basics will do. Regular hair washes with mild shampoo and conditioner if you like. Proper diet is also important.

Curly Hair Care Routine

This can get tricky. I have seen people not realizing they have curly hair as they used the wrong hair products all along. You must have seen those videos on the Internet too.

Are you making the same mistake?

Hopefully not.

If not done right, it can get pretty unmanageable but not so pretty.

  • Curly hair has natural volume, so you must use an excellent conditioner to soften it up a bit. But not all the way flat. It tends to frizz up, so condition it always.
  • Use curl-defining creams and shampoos to make those curls pretty perfect.

Tight Curls Hair Care Routine

Just as tricky as curly hair, if not more. But nothing beats a good and consistent hair care routine.

  • Use conditioner always. You can also use a leave-in conditioner to soften up your hair.
  • And the thing you should steer clear of is too much shampooing.
  • Don’t brush your hair. Strange, right? But yes, don’t. You can use a wide-toothed comb, though.

That’s all.
