5 New Hobbies that Excited me in 2020

One must have at least two hobbies; one they are good at but can’t make it their profession and the other they are not so good at but enjoy doing it. Just so, I also have hobbies. More than two actually. Depending on my mood, I pick one of my many hobbies and get lost in it for some time. The best way to spend some me-time.

You know what, having a hobby also improves your productivity at work as you have an outlet to release your stress. If you don’t indulge in a hobby, here’s 5 reasons why you should consider making one:

  1. It makes you happy.
  2. It kills your monotonous routine.
  3. It improves your mental health
  4. It will boost your self-esteem.
  5. And finally, as I said, it improves your productivity at work.

As much as I love indulging in my favorite hobbies, I also love making new hobbies. It keeps the excitement alive, elevates my mood, and quenches my thirst for newness.

That’s why I made some new hobbies this year and also revived some old hobbies. So, here are the 5 new hobbies that excited in this new year.

5 New Hobbies I made in 2020

What made my 2020 a little exciting than usual?? These 5 new hobbies that I made.

1. Coloring

In school, I used to put a separate notebook for pencil sketches and coloring. I’m sure we all did that. And I drew all kinds of things that attracted me; birds, flowers, sceneries, puppies, and all. I so loved doing that. I have always been very fond of art. But as I grew older, art and creativity took back burner and I started focusing on bigger things like life, academics, job, earnings and such. As much as they are important, it feels like a never-ending story to keep up with the world that is 24*7 running ahead.

But now, in my late 20’s, I realized how essential it is to have a hobby. For that exact reason, I revived this old hobby of mine. Now when I hold a crayon, I feel a gush of new energy.

2. Podcasts

Just a couple of days ago, I received an email from Hubhopper saying that they stumbled upon one of my blog posts (this one: My second book is here, The Invisible Guardian) and that they liked it and made a podcast version of it. I was so surprised when I read that email. I’ve been meaning to explore this podcast world of the Internet for so long but couldn’t find the time. But look at how things worked. Maybe this is what when they say “Universe listens to you.” Anyway, I immediately claimed the podcast intending to continue the channel. And voila, this happened to be my new hobby.

3. Wattpad

Moving on, Wattpad is again one of my old hobbies. Wattpad is basically an online library where you can find thousands of stories to read. I’ve never been a fan of ebooks (always preferred physical copies) but when in college, I read so many stories on Wattpad. But what’s new is that today I’m using it as an author myself. That excites me. I have a story that’s going on right now and I’m happy to be doing it.

4. Spanish

Learning a new language can be so much exciting. Imagine that proud moment when you say “Cómo Estás?” to your friend and he has no idea what you are saying, then you get to say “Oh, it’s just I’m learning Spanish” wearing a silly grin on your face. So, this new hobby has boosted my confidence levels so much that I’m wondering what language should I learn next. Hehe.

FYI, I’m not boasting here, just trying to give you a picture of how this whole ‘learning a new language’ experience feels like.

5. Signing up for workshops

There are workshops for literally everything these days. You name it, you have it. So this year, I joined some workshops. One for every month so far. I get to meet new people there, discuss our common interests and learn something that interests me.

So, even though it’s sometimes a little troublesome to find the time, I try my best to join my fellow workshop mates there. It’s important to have people understand what you are saying. That’s why I think workshops are a great place to learn and have fun at once.

And finally, one littlest thing I’m enjoying to bits nowadays is my Xylophone.

I enjoy making some noise with it. Not music, just some chaotic noise. So, this is that one hobby I’m not really good at. Although, I enjoy my time with it and it is a great stress buster.

So, that’s all. These are my 5 new hobbies. What’s your hobby? Comment below and I’d love to know about you. I’ll see you soon again. Super soon!

Lots of LOVE,

Nikki.

  1. […] Hola, mis Amores. All of us desire to be creatively active, there are hardly any exceptions here. The only trouble is that not all of us are good at it so we try to stay away. But if you ask me, being creative is not about creating some masterpiece, it can also mean relaxing, trying something new, and a whole new level of a productivity boost. So what I’m saying is you don’t have to be a world-famous artist to keep doing something creative, you could also utilize that creative side to boost your work productivity. It is more useful than you think to have a hobby. […]
