We always see people asking students how well are they doing in Mathematics or if they have got a good score in Science. But no one asks how a student is doing in languages. Because we think it doesn’t value much. Sorry to burst your bubble but languages are just as important as any subject.
Once we are grown up and out in the real world I’d say a language is more useful than Logarithms. So these are the five benefits of being multi-lingual.
1. A Great Confidence Booster
Do you often feel not confident enough to be in a group? Then learning a new language might help boost your confidence. Learning a completely new language is no easy task. It takes so much time and a lot of hard work. And when you accomplish such a big thing, it is obvious your confidence escalates higher.
I’m not just saying, I know it by experience. And in today’s fast-paced world, it also kinda need.
2. Looks Impressive on a Resumé
Moving on, this is the more practical benefit of learning a new language. Speaking a foreign language fluently looks fantastic on your resumé. It shows your commitment and learning ability which obviously is what the employers are looking for.
If you can ace a foreign language, your resumé instantly becomes interesting.
3. Improves Brain Activity
Your memory and creativity will be improved. Research even proves that a multi-lingual is more creative than a monolingual. Even for old people, I read somewhere that learning a new language can help them fight against dementia. It will make a great hobby. Isn’t that a great thing?
4. Amazing Social Presence
Throw in a few foreign words into your conversations and you will make a great and fascinating first impression. But careful not to do too much, it will come off as boasting.
So, if you want to have an amazing social presence, put your language skills into action and you will know how interesting things will turn out to be.
5. Sense of Satisfaction
It will give you an enormous sense of satisfaction. You know how life can get monotonous after a point in time, mostly after college or getting a job. At such times, all we need is a bit of something that makes us feel good about ourselves. That can be achieved with a bit of contentment. The feeling you get when you do something right. That is so needed to get out of the humdrum of life.
6. You will always be ready to take on Life
Accepting a change is not easy and I think we all can agree with that. Hence trying to impart a new language into your mind is difficult. But if you can make that happen, you are already simultaneously nurturing your “bring it on” attitude.
And that makes you better at facing a crisis.
7. Finally, so much fun
It is not all work and no fun, you know. If you think so then you are terribly mistaken. It’s so much fun and interesting to learn a new language. Through the language, you also get introduced to the customs and traditions of that country which is an altogether new experience. Plus it comes handy when you are traveling. That way you can get most out of your expeditions.
Aren’t these things have more impact on our lives than we think?
Yes, they do.
So, what do you say? Convinced enough or should I talk more? I’m not compelling you or anything but I just want to share the joy I have been experiencing by learning a foreign language. It truly is something everyone should experience at least once in life.
But you might question how do I get proper guidance, or how to learn. Don’t worry, that is a whole other subject and I will make sure to inform you about those learning techniques as well. Pretty soon.
Adiós!
Hasta Luego,
Nikki.
