There’s comfort food, comfort wear, and also comfort stories.
The bedtime stories we listened to growing up will always stay with us. Every time we re-visit those stories, they take us back in time. Because stories are powerful. One such memorable bedtime story is The Velveteen Rabbit, a classic.
At least that’s what I’ve heard.
I first heard of this book on the F.R.I.E.N.D.S sitcom where Chandler gifts it to Cathy. Since then I wanted to read it as I love children’s stories. Although I’m way past that child phase, I’d never say no to children’s stories. They’re simple yet relatable and fictional yet hopeful.
The Velveteen Rabbit by Margery Williams is the story of a boy and his pet toy rabbit that wants to become real for the boy.
The beginning of the story is my favourite — There was once a velveteen rabbit, and in the beginning, he was really splendid. He was fat and bunchy as a rabbit should be. His coat was spotted brown and white, he had real thread whiskers, and his ears were lined with pink satin.”
Paints quite a picture, doesn’t it?
I listened to the audiobook on audible and I loved it. The story was good and the narration was also brilliant. When it comes to audiobooks, the narration has a huge impact on the listener’s overall experience. Among all the audiobooks I have listened to so far, this is one of the best.
It’s only a 24-minute audiobook. I must have listened to it at least five to six times by far. I don’t mind another time either. Some nights, I drift off into sleep listening to this audiobook.
Finally, it’s a great story. The narration is so simple that your little one can read it himself. I’m definitely going to get the physical copy of it, too. Because I want it on my bookshelf.
Hope The Velveteen Rabbit finds its way into your bookshelf, too.
Love,
Nikki.
